JUNIOR GIRLS CRICKET

Girls Heat League - For girls aged 6-15 years

The Girls Heat League competition is played on Sunday Term 4 & Term 1 with games scheduled throughout the day. Teams are available for beginner players and more advanced players.

There are three different levels of competition available.

  • GHL Foundation Level - ages 6 to 8 years - beginners level

  • GHL - Intermediate - 8 to 12 - for those who have played a little bit of cricket and ready for a bit more competitive cricket

  • GHL - Heat - 10 to 14 - these are the girls who are confident players, and looking for the next challenge in their cricket

All games will be either T20 for the younger girls, and then T30 for the older girls. Games are held on Sundays at Whites Hill, Camp Hill.

Girls are also more than welcome to join in our BEARS Saturday morning competition.

T20 format, 90 minutes in playing time, played on Sunday mornings in Term 4 & Term 1 from 8am (registration essential). Teams available for beginner players and more advanced players

The Girls Heat League is a fantastic opportunity for Girls to play in a Girls only Cricket format. It caters for all ranges of skills from those having a go for the first time right through to competitive more experienced players. The emphasis is on participation and giving everyone equal opportunities to enjoy cricket.

Mixed Competitions

U9 – U12 Junior Cricket Competition

Saturday morning inter-club cricket for U9 to U12 teams is organised by the Eastern Districts Junior Cricket Association EDJCA and involves teams from the following junior cricket clubs: Wynnum Manly, Bulimba, Carina, Holland Park, Mansfield and Villanova College (Pre-Christmas only). The U9 and U10 teams play “one day” games only while the U11 and U12 teams play a mixture of both “one day” and “two day” games. All play to modified rules with LBW only applying to the U12 competition. Teams compete for the enjoyment of cricket rather than premierships.

Junior Divisional Competition U13 – U18

The Bayside East and Redlands Junior Cricket Association, better known as BEARS, organises the Saturday morning inter-club cricket for our U13 and older players (who are still at school) and involves teams from the following junior cricket clubs: Wynnum, Carina, Holland Park, Mansfield, Villanova College, Wellington Point, Redlands Sharks, Cleveland, Thornlands and Muddies. Players are graded into teams based on ability, with due consideration given to their age and player preference. These graded teams play in “Divisions” rather than age groups, with normally six teams per division with Division 1 being the highest grade and Division 16 (pre-Christmas) and Division 6 (post Christmas) being the lowest grade.

Teams play a mixture of both “one day” and “two day” games and there are pre and post Christmas divisional premierships, as club championships, to be won.

U11 to U15 Regional and Representative Cricket for girls

U11 mixed: Wynnum submits mixed girls and boys teams from the u11 aged players in the Ron Eager Cup each year. This is traditionally held the week before Christmas and involves playing other club U11 teams for the Ron Eager cup. It is a great introduction to carnival style cricket. Wynnum proudly won the cup in 2015, 2016 and 2019.

U13 girls: BEARS select a RCP squad to train together and from this select an u13 team to play in the State Carnival. This is the third year of offering a uniquely female pathway and in 2018 and 2019 the BEARs team combined with the Norths team to form the u13 City Fever team that competed in Bundaberg.

U15 girls: BEARS select a RCP squad to train together and from this select an u15 team to play in the State Carnival.

Combining Club and School Cricket

With structured fixtures many of the girls are able to successfully combine playing both Club cricket for Wynnum and cricket for their School. Private schools tend to play Club cricket for Wynnum in Term 4 and cricket for their School in Term 1. Wynnum Manly Junior Cricket has half season registration fees to facilitate these arrangements. Depending on the location of your child’s school, there is also the opportunity to play representative cricket for Metropolitan East School Sports, Metropolitan West School Sports or Metropolitan North School Sports in their respective 12 years and under Primary Girls team, their 12 years and under Primary Boys team, their 14 years and under Secondary Boys team, their 15 years and under Secondary Girls team and their 19 years and under Secondary Boys team.

The Pathway to Senior and Grade Cricket with Wynnum Manly D.C.C

Wynnum Manly Junior Cricket is part of the Wynnum Manly District Cricket Club, which is one of the twelve Clubs with teams in the Queensland Premier Grade Cricket Competition. The Wynnum Manly District Cricket Club presently has Womens’ First and Second Grade teams playing in Queensland Premier Grade Cricket Competition, a team in the Rebecca McCoombes division in the Brisbane Womens Competition as well as playing in the Taverners QLD Under 16 competition for girls.

As Wynnum junior cricketers develop their cricketing skills, notch up some significant performances and grow in size and maturity, they are provided with opportunities to play senior cricket whilst they are still juniors and to train with the women. This greatly eases their way into senior cricket and it often helps to ensure that they continue to play cricket after leaving school.
