TAVERNERS QLD GIRLS UNDER 16
Overview
The Youth Girl’s competition for the 2023/24 season is played in T20 format and competes for the Taverners Shield. It’s played under Premier Cricket standards and the same rules as the Jodie Purves Shield (Women’s Second Grade). This competition provides a clear pathway for players between junior community cricket and senior premier grade competition.
A key feature of this competition is that many of the games are played under lights on turf across many club facilities in the South East region.
When is the competition run?
The competition is run before and after Christmas.
Games will be held on Friday, Saturday or Sunday depending on grounds available. Most games are played in the greater Brisbane area, however we could play at Gold Coast, Ipswich or Sunshine Coast. The draw is expected to be finalised in the coming weeks and will be published on PlayCricket.
What is the age cut off?
Girls up to the age of 16 are eligible to play (as of Sep 1, 2023).
Who can play?
It is important to note this is open for all girls to participate and selection will be further discussed once players are in the squad. is not restricted to current Wynnum Manly District Cricket Club players. To further clarify, the competition is run by Qld Premier Cricket therefore is team is part of the senior program at Wynnum Manly District Cricket Club and not from the junior club. Junior girls from U11 and older, are welcome to attend training and participate in the match day experience. Participating in team warm-ups and learning from the senior players is an invaluable experience for them.
When is training?
Training will commence in November with dates and times to be confirmed closer to the time.
Coaching Team
The coach for the team is Mark Summerill who will work alongside the Harsha De Silva, WMDCC Womens Head Coach.
How to register
Registration is via the new PlayHQ portal. If your daughter already plays for WMDCC juniors or Seniors then you will not have to pay the CA National Registration fee as its only once a year.
Costs
Fees will be $150 for the tournament and that cost will include green one day kit, all ground hire fees, umpire costs and other costs associated with the tournament. All players will need spikes as the games are on Turf wickets.
